ITEM DESCRIPTION:
Here is an Absolutely Beautiful, Historical & Rare Highly Ornate Antique 1900 State of New York
‘First Mortgage 6% Gold Bond’
Certificate for 0.00, No. 3162, from The Pan-American Exposition Company, signed by the President ‘John G. Milburn’ and Attested by the Treasurer ‘Geo. L. Williams’ (he crossed out Secretary to add Treas.), and there is still the .00 ‘Gold Coin’ Coupon Affixed to the bottom left (rest of the bottom paper was trimmed away, but didn’t feature any other coupons). The Pan-American Exposition Company formed in 1897 and was put on hold in 1898 due to the Spanish-American War and was later
“….incorporated under the Pan-American bill signed by Governor Theodore Roosevelt on Jan. 20, 1899. The bill became Chapter 2 of the New York State laws of 1899. Twenty-five of the more than 300 incorporators were elected to serve three-year terms as members of the board of directors. The board was charged with making and amending Exposition by-laws, electing a president, ten or more vice-presidents, a secretary, a treasurer, creating committees as needed, and filling all vacant positions. The board also formed an executive committee, and appointed a director general, an auditor, and a board of women managers. The board of directors elected John G. Milburn president, and appointed William Buchanan director-general. The following committees were created: finance; concessions and exhibits; transportation; publicity; law and insurance; foreign relations; and printing and supplies.”
(From: libweb1.lib.buffalo, University at Buffalo Libraries, “Finding Aid for the Pan-American Exposition Company Records, 1899-1908 (bulk 1899-1902) Mss. C65-7, Buffalo History Museum, Research Library”).
“Milburn was a prominent citizen of Buffalo, serving as president of the Buffalo Club, a member of the executive board of the Buffalo Public Library, and a trustee of the Erie County and City Hall in Buffalo. He was also a prominent Democrat and a personal friend of Grover Cleveland. Milburn is perhaps best known as the chairman of the Pan-American Exposition, the 1901 World’s Fair in Buffalo. After President William McKinley was shot by anarchist Leon Czolgosz at the Exposition on September 5, 1901, he was brought to Milburn’s home were he later died. The house became a popular tourist site, before it was converted into a hotel and later demolished in 1957.”
(From: glabarre). The piece was printed by the ‘Niagara Lith. Co., Buffalo, N.Y.’, as appears printed very tiny lower left (under their Gold Seal). The piece is hinged at the top corners and is spot-affixed with framers ATG tape at a few lower corner spots to a stiff backing board and is shrinkwrapped. The back of the Bond has additional printed information about the Gold Bond and its ‘Principal Due’ date, its stamped No. 3162, and is signed by the President ‘George V. Forman’ of the Fidelity Trust & Guaranty Co. (now M&T Bank), which we have a B&W printout of (slightly enlarged) and is included with the piece (see image below). There is other Bond info lightly stamped in burgundy ink over most of the front printed areas which talks about ‘Additional Payments’. The Bond features its normal folds (folded into 6ths) which are original to the piece when it was issued. The Bond is printed on a lighter-weight cream parchment wove paper stock and is in Excellent Rare+ condition for its antique age with No color fade—Nice rich crisp detail! It’s as beautiful as the day it was printed and is as good as any collector could hope to find in its original never-framed condition. The size with lower coupon is 17” x 11”. No Tears! Extremely minimal (scattered) tiny faint foxing specks here & there on the sheet which aren’t even worth mentioning. Minimal toning of the stock from age, with a little more around the outer edges and fold-lines. One tiny star-tip missing from the seal—also not worth mentioning. This beautiful antique Pan-American Exposition Bond has never been framed which is always more desirable to collectors since it has never been exposed to older non-archival materials, matburn or lightfade.

EMAILING US:
eBayers, at all costs, please use eBay's email system only (no outside email addresses) to contact us with any questions you may have. eBay's email system GUARANTEES we get your email and more importantly, that you get ours. A lot of servers in the last few years have started using newer SPAM filters, and there have been a lot of problems with GOOD emails not getting through correctly, and being returned as undeliverable. We have had numerous problems in the past communicating with our eBayers outside of eBay because of it.
COLLECTORS & DEALERS:
Please DO NOT email us (inside or outside of eBay's email system) with any offers to stop an auction early. It would not be fair to the rest of the eBay Worldwide community if we did that. THE HIGHEST BIDDER -OR- HIGHEST OFFER WINS IT!!!!!
Thank you from the Staff at Meibohm Fine Arts, GOOD LUCK & HAPPY BIDDING!!!
