Description
This M1 helmet is a very unique helmet. Using original parts, the previous owner created a helmet identical to those worn by U.S. Marines during the Fall of Saigon, as well as in other events during 1975. Two parts are of particular importance for authenticity. The helmet cover is an early ERDL example with '69 contract date, similar to those issued to Marines in 1975. The liner is paratrooper model; Marines wearing paratrooper liners can be seen in photos from 1975, as well as throughout the Vietnam War. The last photo shown is an example of a Marine wearing this helmet setup. The helmet shell is in almost mint condition. There is a minor dent on the rim and a few scratches. The original paint is well preserved. Note some white staining on the chinstrap. Manufactured by the Parish Division of Dana Corporation.
The paratrooper helmet liner is in excellent condition. Note the lack of a paratrooper chincup. This was done intentionally by the previous owner, as photos show Marines wearing the liner without the chincup. The original paint is intact and the rim has minimal wear. Note some glue stains on its surface. The liner's interior is clean and has the sweatband and nape strap. The sweatband has a contract date of '68, and the nape strap a contract date of '69. The helmet liner was manufactured by Firestone. Note the name Majewski written on the sweatband.
The ERDL helmet cover is in good condition, with minimal fading. Some scratches. It has a contract date of '69. A very unusual cover on its own, as it is of the earlier batches of ERDL covers manufactured. Note how some of the colors have "blurry" edges, a feature seen in earlier ERDL.
A unique original M1 helmet from the Vietnam War era!
