Description

This SPH-1 helmet shell was found in rather bad shape but with an interesting orange paint scheme. Researching the helmet, I was able to ascertain that this orange paint scheme was use in the 1958-60 time frame in Navy helicopters. It was restored with a new edge roll, USGI boom mic mount and microphone, chin strap and headset. The Foam rubber and cloth liner are reproduction parts. Believe it to be a size large as the edge roll kit was a small and had to have a piece added (Leather covers this on the rear).
I replicated the US Navy Anti-submarine Squadron HS-2 graphics and orange paint scheme from a photo from the USS Yorktown, 1959 Cruise Book.
The HS-2 Helicopter graphic on the rear of the helmet is of an HSS-1 Sea Bat Helicopter that was being flown by HS-2 at that time. it is an added detail that probably wasn't on the helmet but does reflect the type of helicopter being flown by HS-2 at that time.
I am in the process of selling items from a 40-year collection of mostly jet age helmets and oxygen masks. Chances are, if you are looking for something, I probably have one.
Additionally, I enjoy researching and then replicating hard-to-find graphics for flight helmets. Again, if there is something you want, please let me know.
