    Don't Miss This One....!!!
A classic and uniquely original 55th Fighter Group fighter pilot (9 victories/kills 3 aerial including a Me-262 jet and 6 on the ground) \
    Vietnam War
    time period USAF
garrison/overseas Class A uniform/flight suit hat or cap.
In his continuing career in the US Air Force he eventually rose to the rank of major general (two stars) in command of the Special Weapons Group here at Kirtland AFB until his retirement in the summer of 1972. This was his garrison from that time period of the mid 1960s through his retirement. During the years 1943-1945 he and his squadron mates in the 55th Fighter Group were battling the Luftwaffe in the skies over Europe. I may be able to supply the winner with a black and white digital (copy) photo of this famous veteran from WWII.
To me this hat appears to be from the 1950s, possibly even WWII by the tag and construction, but has his current rank from the 1970s until his retirement. The USAF khaki summer uniform began to be phased out during the mid Vietnam War, but some officers continued to wear that uniform up until the early 1970s and certainly the hat could have been worn with a flight suit during the summer. This hat is as found from his personal WWII - Vietnam time period USAAF/USAF personal memorabilia collection a few years ago circa 2011 when I obtained it directly. It is amongst the last of his major uniform items I have left and am willing to part with.
